About the FSA/OWI Black-and-White Negatives
The photographs in the Farm Security Administration - Office of War Information Photograph Collection form an extensive pictorial record of American life between 1935 and 1944. This U.S. government photography project was headed for most of its existence by Roy E. Stryker, who guided the effort in a succession of government agencies: the Resettlement Administration (1935-1937), the Farm Security Administration (1937-1942), and the Office of War Information (1942-1944). The collection also includes photographs acquired from other governmental and non-governmental sources, including the News Bureau at the Offices of Emergency Management (OEM), various branches of the military, and industrial corporations.

En las fotografías se conserva en imágenes la historia de una familia, una sociedad, un país. A través de sus imágenes estáticas podemos ver no sola mente lo que el fotógrafo quiso plasmarnos en los primeros planos, sino también todo lo que hay detrás, que en aquel instante era decorado, pero que quizás con el tiempo es lo que ha empezado a cobrar actualidad y merece ser objeto de estudio. Con lo que podemos afirmar que las fotografías a veces esconden dos o más imágenes en función del objeto de la investigación.
En el presente catálogo la fotografía cumple a la perfección esta tarea de fuente documental ya que una buena parte de ellas recogen las imá genes que los propios protagonistas han realizado y protagonizado en un intento, para ellos, de conservar para el recuerdo sus historias de vida, pero que para nosotros, hoy, son una fuente de investigación de primera mano que merece ser preservada y conse rvada en los lugares adecuados.

La cronología de las fotografías comprende desde abril de 1995 hasta septiembre del
2010. A lo largo de este período un buen número de fotografías hacen referencia a las diversas actividades que se realizan en los centros de emigrantes. Muchas de estas actividades tienen un carácter cultural y en algunos casos como en el Círculo Cultural Español de Frankfurt an Main se contó con figuras como el cantautor Jo sé Antonio Labordeta.
Otras veces se realizan seminarios, coloquios o conferencias. Otro gr upo importante de fotografías realizadas comprenderían la celebración de congresos de emigrantes españoles
